Summary of specimens at GUYN
Mission and Herbarium Objectives: The fundamental objectives, expressed within the Orinoco Botanical Garden Foundation mission are: research, education, and extension. Research: Our research is focused on native plant studies of the Guayana flora, through the preparation of regional floras and botanical exploration. Education: The herbarium is a fundamental aspect of the Dendrology and Environmental Science studies at UNEG, as well as other post-graduate research conducted in the region. Extension: Our plant knowledge is shared locally and globally with governmental agencies, parks, botanical gardens, etc. Services. Herbarium staff are able to participate in assesments, inventory, environmental impact reports, and vegetations studies of the region, as well as provide plant identification services and literature consultation. The herbarium maintains an active exchange and gift-for-identification program with diverse national and international herbaria. Loans are made to recognized botanical institutions.
