The
Orinoco Botanical Garden is a reservoir of flora of fauna from Bolívar City. It
was officially inaugurated on May 21, 1995 thanks to the efforts of the Guayana
Shield botanist Dr. Leandro Aristeguieta. The garden maintains native and exotic
plants that are divided into different sections such as the palm grove,
arboretum, succulent garden, bromeliad garden, orchid garden, and aquatic garden
Infrastructure

Raúl
and Menca de Leoni Path. Always open to the public, this 5-hectare
area provides a transition between the garden and the surrounding urban
area. It is a wonderful pedestrian path. |

| Multi-Use
Rooms. Located adjacent to the Raúl and Menca de Leoni Path are the
restaurant, police post, conference room, and visiting scientist quarters,
and ample, shaded walkways. |

Horticulture
Center
The
Horticulture Center is the nerve area of the botanical garden. It is located
in a 2-hectare fenced area and is not open to the public. It includes two areas.
| Administration
and Services.
The
waiting and display rooms are located here, along with the offices of the
director, administration, horticulture, botany, specimen preparation room,
security, library, and housecleaning. |

Greenhouse.
Propagation and transplant area. Shade House (covered with shadecloth to
filter the sun). Seed storage and prepration.Tool storage area. Fertilizer
storage area. |
Specialty
Gardens
| Bromeliad
Garden. The bromeliad collection occupies a 250 sq. meter area and is
full of color and beauty. There are 64 species of bromeliads in
cultivation. |

Orchid
Garden. The orchid garden is approximately 60 sq. meters. Fifty
species of orchids are found here, predominantly those native to the
Venezuelan Guayana. |
| Fern
Garden. The 100 sq. meter fern garden includes many shade-loving
plants. |
Other
specialized garden areas are the following: Phylogenetic Square,
Succulent and Xerophytic Garden, Economic Botany Garden, Palm Garden,
Alexander Humboldt Garden, Aquatic Garden, Arboretum, and the Morichal San
Isidro Reserve. |
