Mr. Díaz is a botanist and plant ecologist who has conducted research in the Venezuelan Guayana since 1992. He received a degree in agricultural engineering from Universidad Experimental de los Llanos “Ezequiel Zamora” (1991), worked three years as a research assistant in the Herbario Universitario PORT, Edo. Portuguesa, three years as botanist and vegetation specialist C.V.G Técnica Minera (TECMIN C.A.), Ciudad Bolívar and is finishing his Masters degree with a thesis entitled Floristic-Ecologic Study of the Low Orinoco Riparian Corridor’s Flooded Forests. He is currently the curator of the Herbario Regional de Guayana (GUYN) at the Jardin Botánico del Orinoco. He is also associate researcher with the Centro de Investigaciones Ecológicas de Guayana (CIEG) in the Universidad Nacional Experimental de Guayana. He has participated in Conservation International's Rapid Assessment Program of critical tropical habitats and has collected more than 7200 botanical specimens, principally in the Venezuelan Guayana. |
