The Orinoco Botanical Garden Foundation is a self-governing, not-for-profit national institution of Venezuela. It was created by the government of Bolívar State on October 13, 1993 under the auspices of the Superior Council, which is comprised of representatives from government of Bolívar State, the Venezuelan Corporation of Guayana, the government of the Heres Municipality, and the National Experimental University of Guayana.

Mission

To promote and develop knowledge, value, conservation, and education of floristic resources through botanical research, with the goal of assessing, coordinating, and implementing educational activities and passive recreational activities to further the sustainable use of Guayana biodiversity, and therefore that of Venezuela. 

Vision

Our vision is to maintain a national and international reference center for botanical research in the Venezuelan Guayana.  Through our educational and conservation practices, we will also become an equilibrium point between the green areas of Bolívar City and areas of development in order to contribute to the health and integral formation of its inhabitants.

Goals of the Orinoco Botanical Garden Foundation

bulletTo carry out and promote studies on the vegetation and inventory of the Guayana flora.
bulletTo participate in the country’s floristic inventory.
bulletTo promote, foment, and develop environmental education programs that carry with them an improved level and quality of life and to minimize human disturbances to nature.
bulletTo organize and present theoretical and practical educational activities horticulture, landscape architecture, and ecotourism.
bulletTo provide advice and execute projects with the goal of establishing and protecting natural areas, as well as to beautify public areas in Bolívar City and Bolívar State.
